Indrisec were tasked with providing security services to Curo Construction Ltd during their Shinfield Film Studios build. This project created a number of challenges for the team, namely the sheer size of site. Sitting at over 1.5 million square feet surrounded by predominately unlit rural areas, it soon became a target for thieves.

  • Client: Curo Construction Ltd.
  • Location: Reading.
  • Number of Personnel Deployed: Up to 6.
  • Services Deployed: Manned Guarding, Response, CCTV, Turnstiles
  • Main Threats Faced: Theft, vandalism, trespass, injury through trespass.
  • Contract Duration: 3 Years.

Initial security surveys for the site identified some key areas that needed to be monitored. The perimeter of site was large and in some areas, due to space constraints and tree protection initiatives, the perimeter was vulnerable. It was decided that the key to keeping the site safe was to use a mixture of technology and manpower.

Manpower

With the size of site it was imperative to ensure we were able to respond in an instant, should an incursion onto site occur. To achieve this we deployed roaming security teams based out of an operations room monitoring live feeds from cameras placed strategically around site. The security team would also carry out regular overt site patrols to ensure the local populace were aware of a security presence.

Technology

To ensure security and live monitoring of the site we had to utilise a mix of thermal, 4g and hard wired CCTV cameras. Thermal cameras were used in areas where we had long distances to cover to ensure perimeter security. This allowed less cameras to be used and kept costs down. In addition to the thermal cameras, we also installed hard wired reactive cameras where distances would allow. Finally, we utilised cellular, battery operated cameras in areas where it was not practical to run cables and/or get power to. The benefit of these cellular cameras is that we were also able to deploy them to temporary vulnerable areas, such as when fuel bowsers were moved, or when work on the perimeter was taking place.

All of these cameras fed back to a centralised control room on site allowing constant monitoring of the perimeter in between overt foot patrols.

In addition to this, we also arranged for the installation of facial recognition and thermal monitoring turnstiles. This system gave Curo the ability to screen individuals for high temperatures during the recovery phase from the COVID pandemic.

The Result

The result was approximately 24 incursions onto site, with zero losses or health and safety incidents and 2 arrests made resulting in convictions and stolen tool recovery from other sites in the area.
